on wednesday night after m. left, my father came downstairs to get a glass of water. which really meant he wanted to pry into what i had been doing with a boy, alone, in the dark living room. "what have you been doing?" "nothing, watching television, south park was on" "oh, i see". after realizing he couldn't get anymore information out of me, he joking said "i hope your boyfriend didn't drink all my orange juice". we laughed.
my father was referring to was john. who used to drink out all of our orange juice whenever he came over, without any consideration for my family, or their breakfast beverages. the remark was mostly funny because it was the first mention of john in my house in months. my parents and sister had been really careful not to bring him up, out of fear that my head might explode or something. actually, it was the first i had thought of him in months too, not since november (when i pulled my own version of Carrie's speech to Big in the second last episode of 'Sex and the City' and told him to forget i existed).
my dad pulled out the orange juice box and shook it. "it's full, i like this one". he walked upstairs.
